peace, everyone. my name is florea shelby.
this is a space where i offer tools of clarity and remembrance to my community. plant medicine, intuitive reflections and anti-colonial research are the foundations of my practice.
hailing from stolen kumeyaay land (san diego) and currently residing on piscataway & pamunkey land (washington d.c), i am finding many ways to be of service to my community. in 2019, i graduated from american university with a dual b.a in women’s, gender and sexuality studies + anthropology.
i birthed creationsbyflorea in the fall of 2017, beginning in my dorm room making small batches of facial serums. since then it has expanded beyond the natural skincare realm; i offer ritual oils and smoke blends, irregular e-newsletters, personal reflections and ethnographies of decolonized plant medicinal practices. my training as a gender and race critical anthropologist have inspired me to represent people of color and plant medicine in academia. i aim to center colonized people in my research and personal practice.
as i continue experiencing my potential, i hope to be of service to the people; community, togetherness and relationships are the most important aspects of this human experience. i am committed to the integrity of my products, and upholding the integrity of plant medicine itself. read more about my commitments and intentions here.
if you are in the d.c area and would like to collaborate, please do not hesitate to reach out. i also hope to collaborate with Black, brown and Indigenous people across the globe in order to usher in a wave of remembrance, activism and transformation.
